Our Objective

"Ecotourism" was originally defined as "traveling to relatively undisturbed or uncontaminated areas with the specific objective of studying, admiring or enjoying the scenery, its wild plants and animals, as well as any existing cultural manifestations found in these areas."

Every single soul on earth – be it on land, in water or air – is linked through tourism! There is an obvious socio-economic and environmental angle to tourism, which has a human and cultural face too, as it leads to improved lives of many people and increased understanding among all the people of the world.

DEERS defines ecotourism as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." This means that those who implement and participate in ecotourism activities should follow the following principles:

To develop and promote Orissa and thereby India as an ecotourism destination on the national and international ecotourism map.

To ensure that ecotourism development has positive and beneficial linkages for marginalized sorrounding communities.

To help people become aware of the value of the state’s biodiversity through education, the dissemination of information, and awareness building. To develop new approaches in eco-tourism to educate the tourists and the public.

To make the eco-tourism packages socio-economically and culturally beneficial to the local populations.

To promote research in the areas of ecotourism, conservation, and the environmental impacts of development. Research will be undertaken with a view to the formulation and implementation of policies that promote sustainable development.

To establish ties with ecotourism and conservation- oriented national and international organizations to further our mutual goals.
